Build Song Recognition Chains

Give your LangChain agent the AcoustID tools and watch it solve problems. It can try to `lookup_by_fingerprint` first. If that match seems weak, the agent can decide to use the result to `search_by_recording` as a fallback. You're building a reasoning process, not just calling an endpoint. An agent can identify a track, grab its MusicBrainz ID, then immediately use `search_by_mbid` to find alternate versions of the same song. LangSmith shows you every step the agent took to get there.

Automate Your Music Library

A LangChain agent can manage a music database for you. It can monitor for new tracks and use `submit_fingerprint` to add any unidentified songs to the public AcoustID database. The agent decides when a new submission is actually needed. This is more reliable than a simple script. You can build a chain that first calls `search_by_recording` to check if the song already exists under a slightly different name. Your agent handles the logic, preventing duplicates and keeping your data clean.

Create Rich Metadata Pipelines with your LangChain MCP Server

This isn't just about finding a song title. You can build a pipeline that takes an audio fingerprint, runs `lookup_by_fingerprint`, extracts the AcoustID from the result, and then passes it to `get_recording_metadata` automatically. The final output is a complete record with artists, release groups, and more, all from one initial input. Your agent connects the dots between different AcoustID tools, creating a richer dataset than any single tool call could provide. This is what an MCP Server is for.

Setup guide

Set up AcoustID MCP in LangChain

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • langchain-mcp-adapters + langgraph packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install langchain-mcp-adapters langgraph langchain-openai. The MCP adapters package converts MCP tools into native LangChain BaseTool objects.

  2. 2

    Connect via HTTP transport

    Use MultiServerMCPClient with "transport": "http" pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create a ReAct agent

    Pass the discovered tools to create_react_agent() from LangGraph. The agent automatically routes AcoustID tool calls through the MCP protocol.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Swap ChatOpenAI for ChatAnthropic, ChatGoogleGenerativeAI, or any LangChain-compatible model. The MCP tools work identically across all providers.

agent.py
from langchain_mcp_adapters.client import MultiServerMCPClient
from langgraph.prebuilt import create_react_agent
from langchain_openai import ChatOpenAI

async with MultiServerMCPClient({
    "acoustid-mcp": {
        "transport": "http",
        "url": "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp",
    }
}) as client:
    tools = client.get_tools()

    agent = create_react_agent(
        ChatOpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
        tools,
    )
    result = await agent.ainvoke({
        "messages": "List recent AcoustID transactions"
    })
    print(result["messages"][-1].content)

Common questions about AcoustID MCP in LangChain

Your agent will use the `lookup_by_fingerprint` tool. Just pass it the fingerprint string and audio duration, and it returns potential matches with confidence scores.
Yes. The agent calls the `submit_fingerprint` tool. It needs the fingerprint and duration, and can optionally include the track name and artist if it has them.
Have your agent get the MusicBrainz ID for a known version of the song first. Then, it can use the `search_by_mbid` tool to find all other AcoustIDs linked to that same recording, giving you a list of all known fingerprints.
Absolutely. The `search_by_recording` tool is for exactly that. Your agent passes it the track name and artist to get back the correct AcoustID and MusicBrainz ID.
The AcoustID MCP Server only processes the audio fingerprint string and track metadata you submit. Vinkius runs the server in an ephemeral sandbox, and your connection is secured by your single endpoint token. The raw audio never leaves your machine.
