Code with Real-Time AQI Data

The `get_city_feed` and `get_ip_feed` tools let your agent fetch current air quality and inject it directly into your editor. Ask the agent to write a function that uses the AQI in Chicago, and it will call the tool and generate code that works with the real response. Stop writing code against stale, hardcoded mock data. Your agent gets the live API response structure, so the functions and types it generates are correct from the start. It saves a ton of debugging time.

Generate Location-Based Logic

Use the `get_map_bounds` tool to find all monitoring stations within a geographic area. You can tell your agent to find all sensors in a given rectangle and then write a function to process that list. It's ideal for building location-aware features. Cursor's agent calls the tool, gets the station list, and scaffolds the code for you. This is perfect if you're building a map interface or any feature that depends on sensor density in a particular region.

Build Apps with this MCP Server

Chain the `search_stations` and `get_station_feed` tools to build complex logic right in your editor. Have your agent find a specific station by name, grab its unique ID, and then pull its detailed data feed. It’s a two-step process that the agent handles for you. This lets you write and test code that responds to specific sensor conditions. For instance: “Find the ‘Main St’ station, get its data, and write a Python script to alert me if PM2.5 is over 50.” This MCP server makes that happen in seconds.

Setup guide

Set up AQICN MCP in Cursor

Prerequisites

  • Cursor installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP Settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP or open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "MCP: Add Server".

  2. 2

    Add the AQICN MCP

Cursor will create or open .cursor/mcp.json in your project root. Paste the JSON snippet on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Enable Agent mode

Open Composer (Cmd+I / Ctrl+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown at the top. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

Ask Cursor something like "List my recent AQICN transactions." If the MCP tools are loaded correctly, Cursor will call the AQICN tools automatically. You can also check Settings → MCP for a green status indicator.

Common questions about AQICN MCP in Cursor

Create a `.cursor/mcp.json` file in your project's root directory. Add the AQICN server details there, and Cursor's agent will have access to the tools for that project only. For global access, use `~/.cursor/mcp.json` instead.
Yes. The agent will use the `get_ip_feed` tool. It automatically uses your IP address to find the nearest station and can then generate a function in your chosen language that calls and handles that data.
The best tool for that is `get_map_bounds`. You can give the agent a bounding box of coordinates, and it will return all the stations inside. This is more precise than just searching by city name.
Yes, it does. If you add the AQICN server to your `~/.cursor/mcp.json` file, the tools will be available in any project you open in Cursor. This is useful if you work with air quality data frequently.
When you use a tool, only the necessary location data—like a city name for `get_city_feed` or your IP for `get_ip_feed`—is processed. The Vinkius platform runs every tool call as a zero-trust, ephemeral process, meaning your data is handled for that single request and then discarded.
