List legal entities via VS Code Copilot

Use `list_chatham_entities` to keep your team aligned on configured legal structures. It allows developers to reference the correct entity IDs in their code. This keeps your configuration consistent across the entire engineering team. Everyone sees the same list of entities directly inside the editor.

Sync portfolio lists in VS Code Copilot

The `list_chatham_portfolios` tool pulls your current managed portfolio list into the chat interface. You can verify which portfolios are active before running your tests. This ensures your team works with the right data sets. No more guessing which portfolio ID corresponds to a specific client account.

Automate trade lookups with VS Code Copilot

Your team can call `list_chatham_transactions` to pull active trades for review. It makes debugging financial logic much faster for everyone involved. This MCP Server provides the source of truth for your codebase. You save time by fetching transaction data directly instead of querying a database manually.

Setup guide

Set up Chatham Financial MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Chatham Financial MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Chatham Financial tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Chatham Financial transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about Chatham Financial MCP in VS Code Copilot

Yes, you can commit the .vscode/mcp.json file to your repository. This ensures every developer on your team uses the same server configuration.
You need an endpoint token with appropriate scopes to access your account data. Once configured, the tools work for anyone with the correct environment variables.
We recommend using environment variables or a local secret manager for your keys. This keeps your credentials out of your shared configuration files.
The server operates within your secure environment. It does not transmit your financial data to external parties outside of the requested API operations.
The entity data exists only for the duration of your chat session. It is purged immediately after the context is cleared to ensure your information stays private.
