Debate Coda updates with AutoGen agents

Multiple agents discuss whether to `update_row` or `insert_rows` based on their specific roles. One agent might verify the data format while another confirms the business logic before committing the change. This consensus approach prevents bad data from hitting your Coda tables. You build systems where agents challenge each other to find the right answer.

Automate Coda tasks with AutoGen multi-agent systems

Your team of agents uses `list_tables` and `list_columns` to understand your document schema before acting. They work together to gather info, analyze it, and write updates back to your doc. You create a workflow where agents handle the heavy lifting of document management. It turns your Coda workspace into a dynamic participant in your automated processes.

Manage Coda permissions via AutoGen

The MCP Server handles the schema conversion automatically so your agents understand the available tools. You maintain control by deciding which agents have access to destructive tools like `delete_rows`. Your setup remains clean and organized. You focus on the agent interactions while we handle the technical bridge to Coda.

Setup guide

Set up Coda MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Coda tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Coda_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Coda data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Coda MCP in AutoGen

You use the MCP tool adapter to register the server tools with your AutoGen AssistantAgent. Once registered, the agents see the tools as available functions for their conversation.
Yes, the server supports standard HTTP transports for reliable connections. You can deploy your agent system knowing the communication between AutoGen and Coda is stable.
The agents share the conversation history, which includes tool results from Coda. This allows every participant in the debate to see the current state of your document.
The server uses a zero-trust architecture. Your document data is never cached or stored by us, ensuring that only your authorized agents can see your private information.
It integrates directly into the AssistantAgent constructor. If you have an existing multi-agent system, you can add these tools with just a few lines of configuration.
