Connect Data.gov Catalog MCP to VS Code Copilot
Create your Vinkius account to connect Data.gov Catalog to VS Code Copilot and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Deploy the Data.gov Catalog MCP Server team-wide
`search_datasets` allows your team to discover public sector databases without leaving the editor. By committing the server configuration to your repository, every developer instantly shares the same toolset for querying federal registries. Copilot uses these search results to suggest valid download URLs and documentation links. This keeps your entire team aligned on the exact dataset versions being integrated into your production pipelines.
Validate ingestion pipelines using harvest records
`get_harvest_record_transformed` pulls DCAT-US metadata directly into Copilot Chat to verify schema compliance. Your developers can quickly check if an upstream federal agency changed its data structure before deploying code updates. For deeper debugging, `get_harvest_record` and `get_harvest_record_raw` expose the exact lineage of any catalog item. This allows your team to trace data pipeline issues back to the original source payload.
Query spatial datasets with verified geometries
`get_location_geometry` retrieves the GeoJSON boundaries needed to build geographic filters in your application. Copilot reads these boundaries to write accurate spatial queries, database migrations, and map rendering code. To ensure your spatial queries use valid identifiers, `search_locations` and `get_keywords` supply the exact taxonomy used by federal publishers. This eliminates manual data cleaning steps when dealing with regional government boundaries.
