Share Determ Tools with Your Whole Team

Configure the Determ MCP server in your project's `.vscode/mcp.json` file. Once you commit it, every developer on the team gets the same tools in Copilot automatically. No more passing around API keys or Postman collections. A new engineer can immediately ask Copilot to `list_monitoring_queries` to understand what the company tracks. Or they can use `search_mentions_by_keyword` to find press coverage while working on the company website, all inside VS Code.

Let Copilot Draft Code with Live Determ Data

When you're building an internal analytics dashboard, you need real data. Tell Copilot's agent to fetch a `get_query_sentiment_summary` from Determ. It will get the live JSON response and use it to draft a data visualization component for you. This works for any data point. Ask the agent to `list_top_media_sources`, and it can generate a table component. Ask it for `list_recent_high_reach_mentions`, and it can draft the code for a "big hits" feed on an internal portal.

Centralized Determ Access for VS Code Copilot

This MCP server centralizes your Determ API access. Instead of every developer managing their own credentials, the connection is handled by the server. Your team just uses the tools, like `get_mention_details`, without needing direct API access. It's a more secure setup for the whole org. Copilot can check account status with `get_account_metadata` or review query settings with `get_monitoring_query_details`, but the underlying credentials stay locked down on the server, not on individual machines.

Setup guide

Set up Determ MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Determ MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Determ tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Determ transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about Determ MCP in VS Code Copilot

Create a `.vscode/mcp.json` file in your project's root directory. Add the server configuration there and commit the file to your repository. Every team member who pulls the repo will have the tools enabled automatically.
Yes. In Copilot Chat, switch to agent mode and ask it to use the `search_mentions_by_keyword` tool. You'll need to tell it which monitoring query to search in and what keyword to look for.
Ask Copilot's agent to run `get_query_sentiment_summary` for one of your monitoring queries. It will return the positive, neutral, and negative mention counts directly into the chat panel.
Any developer can ask Copilot to run the `get_account_metadata` tool. It returns your account's current settings and usage limits without them needing any special permissions.
Security is managed centrally. This MCP server stores the single Determ credential needed, so individual developers don't have it on their machines. All requests for media mentions or account data are proxied through the Vinkius zero-trust environment, which isolates the connection and ensures your key isn't exposed in your repository or local configs.
