Query Open edX from the Cursor MCP Server
Writing custom dashboards requires knowing exactly what the API returns. Instead of guessing the JSON structure, Cursor uses `list_courses` and `get_course_details` to fetch real payloads. Your editor sees the exact fields and types before writing a single line of TypeScript. When you need to build navigation components, the AI calls `get_course_blocks` to map out the curriculum. Agent mode reads the actual module hierarchy and generates the corresponding React components based on live data, not mock objects.
Rapid Enrollment Testing
Testing registration logic usually clutters your database with fake users. Cursor lets you verify your code by having the agent run `enroll_in_course` directly from the chat panel. You see the API response instantly. Verifying those tests takes seconds. The agent executes `list_enrollments` to confirm the user actually appeared in the roster. It skips the manual Postman checks and keeps your hands on the keyboard.
Grade and Profile Integration
Building reporting tools means handling sensitive academic records. Your AI client pulls real formatting examples using `get_course_grades` and `get_user_grades`. This ensures your parsing logic handles empty fields and edge cases correctly. Profile management endpoints are notoriously picky about payload structures. By testing `get_user_profile` and `update_user_profile` right in the editor, Cursor figures out exactly which fields are required. It even checks `get_user_preferences` to ensure notification settings match the schema.
