Real-time hardware state in the Vercel AI SDK

The `get_entity_state` tool pulls live sensor data from your local network directly into your Vercel AI SDK streams. You map the JSON response to your React components as it arrives over the wire. The agent relies on `get_entity_state` to fetch the exact temperature or motion state when the user asks. It passes the raw payload straight to the frontend, bypassing traditional backend aggregation layers.

Immediate physical control from chat

Triggering a `light_action` or `switch_action` happens the second the LLM decides to fire the tool. The user types a request, the model generates the tool call, and the physical relay clicks before the text finishes generating. You bind `cover_action` to a custom slider component. The agent reads the user's intent, calculates the tilt percentage, and executes the HTTP request to the ESP8266 or ESP32 running the web server.

Exposing Prometheus metrics via MCP Server

This MCP Server includes a `get_metrics` tool that scrapes the Prometheus endpoint on your microcontrollers. Your agent reads memory usage, WiFi signal strength, and uptime metrics in plain text. You pipe the output of `get_metrics` into a generative UI block. The user asks for a health check, and the interface renders a live chart showing exactly how the hardware performs under load.

Set up ESPHome MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • ai + @modelcontextprotocol/sdk packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token

    Run npm install ai @modelcontextprotocol/sdk plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).
