Feed Financial Data to BigQuery

Get your accounting data ready for enterprise-scale analysis. Your agent can use `list_contacts` and `list_invoices` to pull customer and sales history from FreeAgent. From there, it's just another step to pipe that data into a BigQuery table. This isn't just a data dump. You can build an agent that periodically checks for new invoices, calculates metrics like average payment time, and updates your analytics dashboards. It closes the loop between your live accounting and your business intelligence.

Perform Long-Context Financial Review

Use Gemini's massive context window to analyze your finances. An agent can pull your `list_chart_of_accounts`, fetch the `get_profit_and_loss` report, and then dive deep into `list_bank_transactions` for multiple accounts, holding all that information in memory at once. This allows for more sophisticated questions. You can ask your agent to find anomalies by comparing spending patterns across different expense categories, a task that's difficult without a complete, in-context picture of your finances.

Build on a Standard MCP Server

This MCP server gives your Google ADK agent a simple, tool-based way to access FreeAgent. Instead of writing custom API integration code, you just point the ADK's `McpToolset` to your Vinkius URL. Your agent can then call tools like `list_projects` or `list_purchase_bills` as if they were local functions. Because it's a standard interface, you can swap out the backend without rewriting your agent's core logic. If you move from one accounting system to another, you just point your agent to a new MCP server with the same tool signatures.

Setup guide

Set up FreeAgent MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with FreeAgent tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="FreeAgent_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to FreeAgent tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about FreeAgent MCP in Google ADK

Yes. You can build an agent that uses this MCP server to call `list_invoices` from FreeAgent and then uses a custom tool you've written to query your BigQuery tables for matching purchase orders. The ADK is designed to mix and match different toolsets.
You don't connect the ADK directly to FreeAgent. You subscribe to this managed server, get a Vinkius URL, and pass it to the `McpToolset` in your agent's code. The server handles the authentication and interaction with the FreeAgent API.
For complex financial analysis that requires comparing lots of data from tools like `list_bank_transactions` and `list_invoices`, a model with a large context window like Gemini 1.5 Pro is a good choice. For simpler tasks, smaller models are faster and more cost-effective.
Yes, the Google ADK is part of the Vertex AI ecosystem. You can deploy your agent as a service on Vertex AI and have it use this toolset to interact with your FreeAgent data, triggering it from Cloud Functions or other GCP services.
This server handles your FreeAgent financial records, such as P&L summaries and transaction lists. Your connection is secured by your Vinkius token, and the server runs in an isolated sandbox. Since you're using the Google ADK, you can further secure your agent's environment using Google Cloud's IAM and other security controls.
