How to Use the HashiCorp Nomad MCP in AutoGen
Build AutoGen agent teams that debate HashiCorp Nomad deployment promotions and negotiate cluster resource allocations.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect HashiCorp Nomad MCP to AutoGen
Create your Vinkius account to connect HashiCorp Nomad to AutoGen and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
AutoGen MCP Server for Cluster Operations
The `list_jobs` and `get_job` tools feed HashiCorp Nomad workload data into a multi-agent AutoGen conversation. You spin up a capacity planning agent and a developer agent that review the same job specifications and argue about requested CPU limits. The developer agent pushes for higher resource caps to ensure performance, while the capacity agent reads the job file and pushes back. They iterate on the configuration until they reach a consensus that satisfies both speed and cost constraints.
Multi-Agent Incident Response
Your diagnostic agents use the `list_allocations` and `get_allocation` tools to investigate task failures collaboratively. An SRE agent pulls the allocation state, while a network agent simultaneously runs `get_node` and `list_nodes` to check host health. They share their findings in the shared chat context. If the SRE agent blames the application code but the network agent proves the host machine was offline, they cross-examine the API responses until they identify the true root cause.
Consensus-Driven Rollouts
The `list_deployments` and `get_deployment` tools pipe live rollout metrics into an agent debate. A QA agent monitors the canary health, while an ops agent watches the error rates, evaluating the deployment from completely different perspectives. They must agree before taking action. If both agents sign off, one executes `promote_deployment` to shift the remaining traffic. If the QA agent detects a regression, it overrides the ops agent and fires `fail_deployment` to revert the cluster state.
Set up HashiCorp Nomad MCP in AutoGen
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]package - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install AutoGen with MCP
Run
pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includesmcp_server_toolsfor stateless tool access. - 2
Fetch tools from the MCP
Call
mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...))with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Run your agent
Pass the tools to
AssistantAgentand callagent.run(). The agent invokes HashiCorp Nomad tools and returns structured results.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="HashiCorp Nomad_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
tools=tools,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent HashiCorp Nomad data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]+autogen-agentchat - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install dependencies
Same packages as above.
McpWorkbenchis ideal when your agent needs stateful sessions across multiple tool calls. - 2
Use McpWorkbench as context manager
Wrap your agent in
async with McpWorkbench(...)to maintain shared state and resources. The workbench manages the full MCP session lifecycle. - 3
Run with workbench
Pass
workbench=workbenchto your agent. State is preserved across multiple tool calls within the same session.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import McpWorkbench, SseServerParams
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
async with McpWorkbench(server_params) as workbench:
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="HashiCorp Nomad_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
workbench=workbench,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent HashiCorp Nomad data")
