Analyze Timesheets in BigQuery

The `list_time_entries` tool gives your agent access to all logged time blocks in Hubstaff. Your Gemini-powered agent can pull thousands of entries, then use its long context window to find patterns or summarize billable hours across multiple projects. The real power comes when you connect this to your cloud stack. The agent gets the data from Hubstaff, then uses your own Google Cloud tools to push it into a BigQuery table. You go from raw time logs to a full-blown analytics dashboard without writing new ETL code.

Enterprise Reporting with your MCP Server

Your agent can use `list_projects` and `list_tasks` to get a complete picture of active work. With Google ADK, your agent can reason over this data, comparing Hubstaff project statuses with data from other sources you've connected, like a sales CRM or a code repository. Since this all runs on Vertex AI, you can build powerful internal reporting agents. Imagine asking, 'Which projects are over budget based on logged hours?' Your agent can now answer that by combining data from this Hubstaff MCP server and your other tools.

Audit Activity Across the Org

The `list_activities` and `list_users` tools give you a raw feed of team activity. A standard agent might get overwhelmed, but a Gemini agent using the Google ADK can process a massive stream of activity data, holding context for the entire organization to spot unusual patterns. This is for serious, large-scale analysis. You can task an agent with monitoring for burnout risks by correlating high activity with low task completion, or check for compliance by ensuring all active users have logged their time correctly. It turns Hubstaff data into a source for strategic insights.

Setup guide

Set up Hubstaff MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with Hubstaff tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="Hubstaff_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to Hubstaff tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about Hubstaff MCP in Google ADK

Your agent uses tools like `list_time_entries` to pull data from the Hubstaff MCP server. Then, it uses other tools you've provided to push that data into BigQuery for large-scale analysis.
No. Vinkius handles the authentication securely on the backend. You just use a single Vinkius endpoint token to connect your Google ADK agent.
The biggest benefit is letting your Gemini models act on live Hubstaff data without building custom API plumbing. Your agent can query Hubstaff and then immediately use that data within your existing Google Cloud workflow.
Yes. The `McpToolset` constructor in the Google ADK has a `tool_names` filter. You can pass it a list of the exact tool names you want to expose to the agent.
Your agent interacts with Hubstaff project, user, and time entry data through an isolated Vinkius sandbox where each transaction is ephemeral. Google ADK's own security model for Vertex AI provides an additional layer of enterprise-grade control over the operation.
