Real-time fleet tracking with OpenAI Agents SDK

The `get_device` and `list_devices` tools expose live location coordinates, battery status, and network connectivity for your active fleet. Your agent reads this data to instantly pin down where a driver is without manual database queries. We route this raw telematics data directly into your agent's reasoning loop. This lets the model make routing decision adjustments on the fly based on actual hardware coordinates rather than stale estimates.

Automated trip monitoring and ETA calculations

The `get_trip` and `list_trips` tools supply the exact route history, current destination, and ETA calculations for ongoing dispatches. Your agent uses this telemetry to detect delays and trigger customer notifications before a delivery window misses. By connecting this MCP server to your agent framework, you build self-correcting dispatch loops. If a driver hits an unexpected delay, the agent flags the specific trip ID and recalculates arrival times instantly.

Geofenced operational boundaries for field workers

The `get_geofence` and `list_geofences` tools expose virtual boundary parameters and visit logs for your field locations. Your agent queries these tools to verify when a worker entered a specific job site or how long they stayed. This setup removes the guesswork from timesheet verification. Your agent compares physical location logs from `get_worker` against scheduled shifts to catch discrepancies automatically.

Setup guide

Set up HyperTrack MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • openai-agents package (pip install openai-agents)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Run pip install openai-agents to install the OpenAI Agents SDK. The MCP integration is built-in — no extra dependencies needed.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use MCPServerSse with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. The SDK auto-discovers all HyperTrack tools at runtime.

  3. 3

    Create your Agent

    Pass the MCP to Agent(mcp_servers=[server]). The agent receives HyperTrack tools as native definitions — JSON schemas resolve automatically.

  4. 4

    Run the agent

    Call Runner.run(agent, prompt) to execute. The agent invokes the appropriate HyperTrack tools and returns structured results. Copy the full example on the right to get started.

agent.py
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerSse

async def main():
    async with MCPServerSse(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ) as server:
        agent = Agent(
            name="HyperTrack Agent",
            instructions="You have access to HyperTrack tools.",
            mcp_servers=[server],
        )
        result = await Runner.run(agent, "List recent transactions")
        print(result.final_output)

asyncio.run(main())

Common questions about HyperTrack MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Run `pip install openai-agents` to get started. Define your server connection using `MCPServerStreamableHttpParams` pointing to your Vinkius endpoint, then pass it as `mcp_servers=[server]` to your Agent constructor. Set `cacheToolsList=True` to minimize network overhead during tool discovery.
Yes. You control tool exposure directly through your agent definitions or by configuring the Vinkius gateway permissions. This ensures your agent only invokes specific read tools like `list_orders` or `get_trip` without exposing administrative endpoints.
The SDK queries the `get_device` tool to retrieve the latest latitude, longitude, and device status. Because the integration runs over a managed MCP server, your agent gets structured JSON payloads containing live telemetry for instant decision-making.
When a device loses cellular connection, `get_device` returns the last known cached coordinate along with a disconnected status flag. The agent detects this state change via the MCP connection and flags the trip for dispatcher review.
Your live coordinates, device IDs, and trip histories are protected via Vinkius's secure, zero-trust sandbox. No tracking data is stored on our intermediate servers; it passes directly from HyperTrack's API to your agent via encrypted HTTPS connections.
