Fetch Trivia by Category

The `get_categories` tool gives your agent a starting point, pulling up to 100 Jeopardy! categories. From there, your agent can use `get_category` to get all the clues associated with a single topic. It's a direct way to structure a full round of trivia. With Google ADK, your Gemini agent can hold this data in its massive context window. It can reason about the relationships between categories or plan multi-turn trivia games without losing track of the board state.

Query for Specific Clues

Give your agent the `get_clues` tool to find questions that match specific criteria. You can filter by dollar value, air date, or category ID. This lets you build agents that can answer prompts like, 'Find me a $1000 clue about history from before 1990.' This becomes really powerful when you combine it with your own data in BigQuery. Your agent can cross-reference Jservice trivia with your internal knowledge bases, all within the Google Cloud ecosystem. The ADK makes these connections straightforward.

A Managed Jservice MCP Server for ADK

This MCP Server exposes the Jservice database as a standard toolset for Google ADK. You just create an `McpToolset` with your server URL and pass it to your `LlmAgent`. There's no API client to write or maintain. You can also use the `tool_names` filter in the `McpToolset` to control which functions your agent can access. For example, you might build a specialized agent that can only use `get_random_clues` for a specific task.

Setup guide

Set up Jservice MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with Jservice tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="Jservice_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to Jservice tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about Jservice MCP in Google ADK

You instantiate an `McpToolset`, pointing it at your Vinkius server URL for Jservice. Then, you pass that toolset into the `tools` list for your `LlmAgent`. The agent can then call the Jservice tools like any other function.
Yes. The `McpToolset` constructor in Google ADK accepts a `tool_names` argument. You can pass a list like `['get_random_clues']` to expose only that specific tool to your agent.
Your agent can invoke the `get_random_clues` tool, which is part of this MCP toolset. This is the simplest way to get trivia without needing to specify a category first. The tool returns up to 100 random clues.
Nothing on your end. This is a managed MCP server, so Vinkius handles any updates to the underlying Jservice API. Your agent's tool definitions remain stable.
The server only processes public Jeopardy! clue and category data. It doesn't access, store, or transmit any of your private data from Google Cloud or elsewhere. Each request is an ephemeral, sandboxed operation secured by your endpoint token.
