How to Use the KanbanZone MCP in AutoGen
Deploy AutoGen agent teams that debate, coordinate, and automatically execute card updates on your KanbanZone boards.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect KanbanZone MCP to AutoGen
Create your Vinkius account to connect KanbanZone to AutoGen and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Coordinate board updates with an AutoGen MCP Server
Executing `list_boards` and `list_cards` provides your AutoGen agents with the raw data they need to analyze team capacity and current bottlenecks. A coordinator agent can look at the current WIP limits while a developer agent requests a new task. They debate which card should be prioritized next based on real-time board states directly through the MCP Server. This consensus-driven approach ensures that no single agent makes unverified changes to your workspace. Once the agents agree on the best course of action, they execute the updates directly through the server. Your project board remains organized without requiring constant human supervision.
Enforce WIP limits using AutoGen agent debates
Running `move_card` allows your AutoGen agent team to advance work packages through your pipeline after verifying quality checks. Before moving a card, a quality assurance agent can challenge the move if testing logs are missing. The agents negotiate until all criteria are met, then trigger the state transition. If the target column is at its WIP limit, the coordinator agent blocks the transition and flags the bottleneck. This prevents your team from overloading specific columns and stalling overall delivery. The entire process runs autonomously, guided by the rules of your specific workflow.
Manage event listeners using AutoGen agent teams
Creating webhooks via `create_webhook` and monitoring them with `list_webhooks` lets your AutoGen agents establish automated feedback loops. A monitoring agent can set up a listener to watch for critical bugs, while a triage agent waits to process incoming events. When a bug card is created, the triage agent instantly assigns it and alerts the team. Once a tracking cycle completes, the agents use `delete_webhook` to tear down temporary listeners and keep your board clean. This dynamic management ensures you only pay for the webhooks you actively need. It keeps your system lightweight and highly responsive to critical project events.
Set up KanbanZone MCP in AutoGen
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]package - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install AutoGen with MCP
Run
pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includesmcp_server_toolsfor stateless tool access. - 2
Fetch tools from the MCP
Call
mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...))with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Run your agent
Pass the tools to
AssistantAgentand callagent.run(). The agent invokes KanbanZone tools and returns structured results.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="KanbanZone_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
tools=tools,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent KanbanZone data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
autogen-ext[mcp]+autogen-agentchat - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install dependencies
Same packages as above.
McpWorkbenchis ideal when your agent needs stateful sessions across multiple tool calls. - 2
Use McpWorkbench as context manager
Wrap your agent in
async with McpWorkbench(...)to maintain shared state and resources. The workbench manages the full MCP session lifecycle. - 3
Run with workbench
Pass
workbench=workbenchto your agent. State is preserved across multiple tool calls within the same session.
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import McpWorkbench, SseServerParams
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient
server_params = SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
async with McpWorkbench(server_params) as workbench:
agent = AssistantAgent(
name="KanbanZone_assistant",
model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
workbench=workbench,
)
result = await agent.run("List recent KanbanZone data")
print(result.messages[-1].content) Independent Platform Disclaimer: Vinkius is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, verified by, or otherwise authorized by KanbanZone.
