How to Use the KanbanZone MCP in CrewAI
Deploy an autonomous crew of AI agents on CrewAI to manage your KanbanZone projects. Divide and conquer tasks from reporting to execution.
Works with every AI agent you already use

Connect KanbanZone MCP to CrewAI
Create your Vinkius account to connect KanbanZone to CrewAI and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Assign Agents to Specific Board Roles
A single agent can't do everything. With CrewAI, you can create a team where each agent has a specific job, and KanbanZone is their shared workspace. For example, a 'Reporter' agent runs `list_cards` every morning to generate a status summary for your team's Slack channel. Meanwhile, a 'Janitor' agent could run weekly, using `list_boards` to scan all projects for cards that haven't been updated in a month. When it finds one, it uses `update_card` to tag the project manager. This is how you specialize and automate.
Build Autonomous Execution Pipelines
Let your crew run the board for you. You can design a sequential process where agents hand off work to each other. It starts with a 'Triage' agent that monitors an email inbox and uses `create_cards` to put new tasks in the 'Backlog' column on a KanbanZone board. When a card appears there, a 'Developer' agent is triggered. Once its task is complete, it uses `move_card` to push the ticket to the 'For Review' column. This automatically assigns the work to a 'QA' agent, creating a fully autonomous workflow from start to finish.
Let Agents Manage Their Own Environment
Your crew can be dynamic. An 'Admin' agent can monitor your system and decide when to bring in specialists. For instance, it can use `create_webhook` to listen for any card being tagged with 'urgent-bug' on your main KanbanZone board. When that event fires, the Admin agent can spin up a new 'Incident Response' crew to handle it. Once the incident is resolved and the card is moved to 'Done', the Admin agent can tear down the webhook with `delete_webhook` and dismiss the temporary crew.
Set up KanbanZone MCP in CrewAI
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
crewaipackage (pip install crewai) - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install CrewAI
Run
pip install crewaito install the framework. MCP support is built-in via themcpsparameter. - 2
Add the MCP URL to your agent
Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the
mcpslist. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically. - 3
Kick off your crew
Create a
Crewwith your agent and tasks. Callcrew.kickoff()— the agent will automatically invoke KanbanZone tools as needed.
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew
agent = Agent(
role="KanbanZone Analyst",
goal="Access and analyze KanbanZone data via MCP.",
backstory="Expert analyst with direct KanbanZone access.",
mcps=[
"https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
],
)
task = Task(
description="List recent KanbanZone transactions",
agent=agent,
expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)
crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result) Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
crewai+crewai-toolspackages - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install dependencies
Run
pip install crewai crewai-tools. TheMCPServerAdapterhandles lifecycle management and tool conversion. - 2
Connect with MCPServerAdapter
Use
MCPServerAdapteras a context manager withSseServerParameterspointing to your Vinkius endpoint. The adapter automatically manages connection lifecycle. - 3
Assign tools and run
Pass the returned
mcp_toolsto your agent'stoolsparameter. The adapter converts MCP tools to nativeBaseToolobjects compatible with all CrewAI agents.
