Command-line Meilisearch administration with MCP Server

Claude Code runs `get_stats` and `get_health` to monitor your search database directly from your shell. You can pipe this data into other CLI tools or let the agent diagnose performance bottlenecks during high-traffic events. This MCP Server lets you check index sizes, document counts, and system availability without opening a browser dashboard. It is a fast, keyboard-first way to keep tabs on your search infrastructure.

Terminal-driven document CRUD and task control

Execute rapid data operations using `add_documents`, `update_documents`, and `delete_documents_batch` directly from your terminal. The agent handles formatting your raw JSON files and pushing them to your search index. When running large migrations, Claude Code uses `list_tasks` and `cancel_tasks` to manage the asynchronous queue. You can easily clear stuck indexing jobs without writing custom curl commands.

Scriptable search testing and index swapping

Validate your search relevance by letting the agent trigger `search_documents` and `similar_documents` from your command line. You can test how your search engine handles typos, filters, and facets during active development. Before deploying schema updates, have the agent run `swap_indexes` to ensure zero-downtime transitions. It provides a reliable way to run integration tests on your search configuration before committing code.

Common questions about Meilisearch MCP in Claude Code

You can point the agent to a local JSON file, and it will run `add_documents` to upload the data. It then tracks the import progress using `get_task` directly in your terminal.
Yes. The agent uses `configure_experimental_features` via the MCP to toggle advanced search capabilities on your instance. It runs `list_experimental_features` first to verify what settings are currently active.
The agent triggers `create_dump` or `create_snapshot` to generate secure backups of your search instance. You can monitor the backup task status without leaving your command-line session.
Yes, Claude Code calls `create_key` and `delete_key` to manage access control for your indexes. This makes it easy to generate temporary keys during automated deployment scripts.
Yes. Your API keys, search settings, and document payloads are transmitted over encrypted connections directly to your instance. The MCP Server operates as a stateless proxy on your local machine, ensuring no data is ever cached or intercepted.
