How to Use the NASA MCP in Cline
Give Cline direct access to NASA APIs to autonomously build space dashboards and data pipelines right inside VS Code.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect NASA MCP to Cline
Create your Vinkius account to connect NASA to Cline and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Build space apps autonomously inside VS Code
The `get_apod` and `get_mars_photos` tools allow Cline to fetch daily astronomy pictures and rover imagery directly from federal servers. You just tell your agent to build a gallery component, and it handles the rest. Cline writes the code, imports the endpoints, and stages the commits. It reads the exact image URLs, camera types, and Earth dates returned by the API to populate your application without manual intervention.
Parse complex planetary data with this MCP Server
Tools like `get_neo_feed` and `get_epic_images` return dense JSON containing asteroid velocities, diameters, and Earth coordinates. Your AI client can ingest this raw feed and instantly convert it into typed TypeScript interfaces. You never have to read the documentation yourself. The agent sees the exact schema returned by the endpoint and writes the correct parsing logic to display potentially hazardous objects in your app.
Research government patents through Cline
The `search_patents` and `search_nasa_library` tools give your agent the ability to query vast archives of federal intellectual property and media. It can search for specific software or hardware patents available for commercial use. Instead of just answering questions, the agent actively builds research reports. Ask it to find patents related to solar panels, and it will generate a Markdown file containing the titles, numbers, and abstracts.
