Test database changes inline with Cursor

Stop writing code against stale mock data or risking your staging database. While you build a new feature, Cursor uses `create_branch` to spin up an exact copy of your production database in seconds. Your agent then calls `list_endpoints` to retrieve the connection string for this ephemeral branch. It injects this live connection directly into your local environment files, letting you run integration tests against real data.

Manage serverless workspaces inside your editor

Keeping track of multiple environments is a pain when you are deep in the zone. This MCP Server lets your editor query active projects with `list_projects` and grab specific configuration details using `get_project`. If you need to spin up a completely clean workspace for a new microservice, the editor calls `create_project` on your behalf. You get a fresh database connection without leaving your active workspace.

Map schemas and roles with Cursor Agent

When writing database adapters, you need to know exactly which roles and schemas exist. Cursor calls `list_roles` and `list_databases` to inspect your active branch, generating typed database clients that match your real schema. This keeps your database migrations synchronized. The agent queries `get_branch` to check the parent state, ensuring your local schema changes align perfectly with the target branch before you push code.

Common questions about Neon (Serverless PostgreSQL) MCP in Cursor

Add the server to your `.cursor/mcp.json` configuration file in your project root. Once configured, enable Agent mode in the chat panel to let Cursor invoke the branching and project management tools.
Yes. You can instruct the Cursor Agent to delete temporary testing branches using `delete_project` or by managing your branches once your local integration tests finish running.
Your Neon API key is stored locally in your Cursor configuration. The editor uses this key to authenticate requests for tools like `list_branches` and `list_endpoints` without exposing your secrets to external servers.
Yes. Ask the agent to show your active branches, and it will run `list_branches` to display a list of all database clones associated with your project ID.
All schema metadata and project details retrieved via `list_databases` are processed locally within your editor session. Cursor handles these database payloads securely on your machine, preventing sensitive table structures from leaking to external logging services.
