Pipe Live Headlines to the Terminal

`get_top_headlines` pulls breaking global events directly into your terminal session. Claude Code uses this tool to fetch raw JSON payloads, allowing you to filter real-time events, feed them into shell scripts, or trigger automated CI/CD pipelines based on current world news. Because Claude Code runs headless, you can easily pipe this headline data to other command-line utilities. It makes writing automated news-triaging scripts incredibly straightforward.

List Publishers via Claude Code CLI

`list_sources` exposes the entire directory of 150,000 publishers to your command line. Claude Code calls this tool to discover active news outlets, helping you build curated lists of media targets directly from your terminal prompt. The tool provides a clean output that the CLI agent can immediately parse. It saves you from having to look up publisher IDs in external documentation.

Search Millions of Articles via MCP Server

`search_everything` lets Claude Code run complex boolean searches across millions of historical articles. The MCP Server processes these complex parameters, letting the CLI agent use operators like AND, OR, and NOT to locate obscure technical or financial reports, returning the exact metadata you need without leaving your shell. You can run these deep searches as part of your cron jobs or deploy them in Docker containers. The agent handles the query construction and dumps the clean results directly to stdout.

Common questions about News MCP in Claude Code

Run `claude mcp add --transport http news-mcp -- ` in your terminal. This adds the configuration to your local `~/.claude.json` file so the CLI agent can immediately access the tools.
Yes. You can instruct Claude Code to run headless tasks that trigger `search_everything` and pipe the resulting article metadata directly into local files or databases.
The CLI agent manages tool execution sequentially, ensuring that your batch scripts and cron jobs calling `get_top_headlines` do not trigger rapid-fire API errors.
You can connect using stdio, http, or sse transports. Claude Code handles the connection protocol seamlessly once configured via the command line interface using the remote MCP tool.
Your search keywords and article metadata are processed through an ephemeral, zero-trust connection. No search terms are logged or stored on our servers, ensuring your competitive intelligence gathering remains entirely confidential.
