Feed Massive Context Windows

The `search_news` tool from this MCP Server dumps hundreds of relevant articles straight into Gemini's massive context window. You query by keyword, language, or country, and the agent reads the entire output without breaking a sweat. This is where Google ADK shines. Instead of chunking or summarizing prematurely, your agent reads the raw news data in one go. You get a better read on the situation because the model actually sees the full picture before generating a response.

Connect News Clusters to BigQuery

Running the `get_news_clusters` tool pulls pre-grouped news narratives directly into your Google Cloud environment. The agent grabs these semantic clusters and can immediately cross-reference them with your internal data. If you track market movements, the agent pulls the latest financial clusters and pushes the structured text straight to BigQuery. It creates a direct pipeline between global events and your enterprise data warehouse.

Target Specific Sources via MCP Server

The `list_sources` tool gives your agent a precise map of available publishers across different topics and countries. The agent uses this map to decide exactly where to pull its information from. Once the sources are filtered, the agent uses `get_latest_news` to monitor those specific outlets. You avoid hallucinated news because the agent only reads from the verified list you approved through the toolkit.

Setup guide

Set up NewsCatcher MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with NewsCatcher tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="NewsCatcher_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to NewsCatcher tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about NewsCatcher MCP in Google ADK

You create a McpToolset using StreamableHttpServerParameters with your endpoint URL. Then, you pass this toolset into your LlmAgent tools array.
Yes, you can use the optional tool_names filter. This lets you expose only specific operations like search_news while hiding the others from the agent.
Absolutely. You pass the target language code into the search_news tool. Gemini handles the translation and analysis natively within its long-context window.
The framework supports both Stdio and HTTP transports. You pick the one that fits your Google Cloud deployment architecture.
The keywords and topic parameters you send to fetch news articles are strictly isolated. The MCP standard ensures your enterprise Vertex AI environment only requests the specific news data it needs, keeping your internal BigQuery records completely walled off from the external feed.
