Automate Task Creation via the MCP Server

Got a script that needs to dump tasks? Use `create_task` directly from your code. You pass it content and an optional project ID, and Cline handles writing the task into Todoist. It's perfect for building automated pipelines where you need reliable data entry without human intervention.

Generate Task Lists in Todoist

Need to pull a batch of tasks? Running `list_tasks` lets your agent fetch all active items, and you can restrict the scope by supplying a project ID. The data comes back clean for immediate use. This makes it easy to build components that display dynamic todo lists based on live backend data.

Track Project Progress in Todoist

Use `list_projects` and then `list_sections` to map out the structure of your work. This lets your code base understand exactly how complex projects are organized. It's a structured way to get project hierarchy data, which you can then use to write tests or generate documentation.

Common questions about Todoist MCP in Cline

You call `list_tasks` from your script. If the task needs filtering, you just supply the relevant project ID. The output is structured data ready for use in your code.
Yes. You can wrap `create_task` into a Python or Node module. Just feed it the content and project ID, and it writes the task for you. No hand-holding required.
You call `list_comments` against a specific task's ID. This fetches all associated messages and context, which you can then parse into your application logic.
To see what tags are available, execute `list_labels`. The agent returns a clear list of all user-defined labels you've attached across your entire todo environment.
The server handles project IDs and task content. Your code only sees the structured identifiers it needs, never raw credentials or sensitive personal data.
