Board Overview and Search

Need a full board overview? `list_board_cards` gets you all the cards across every list immediately. You can also run `search_cards`, which returns matching cards when you provide keywords, giving you highly focused results. If you want to see the entire structure of a board, use `list_lists` to map out all the available columns.

Card Creation and Modification

`create_card` spins up a brand new card on the board when you tell it to. If details change later, just call `update_card`. You'll also need `add_checklist` if you want to add specific check items to that card. For labeling, first use `list_labels`, then pass the IDs to `add_label_to_card`.

Gathering Trello Data

`get_board` pulls all the details for a specific board into your local environment. To know who's on it, use `list_members`. You can also pull basic user info using `get_me`. If you want to see every card title and description, running `list_cards` gives you everything within a single list.

Common questions about Trello MCP in Cline

Run the `search_cards` tool. Just drop in your keywords, and Cline handles returning all matching cards for you. It's fast and gives you context about which board they belong to.
Yep. You first run `list_labels` to pull the IDs available. Then, you pass those IDs into `add_label_to_card`. It's a two-step process, but it works perfectly.
Use the `get_board` tool. This gives you all the essential data points for that specific board. You're looking at a full snapshot of the project structure.
It’s best to archive by calling `update_card` and setting it as closed (`true`). If you must delete, use `delete_card`, but stick with updates for better audit trails.
The server handles board and card metadata, including descriptions, labels, checklists, member lists, and activity comments. It's all structural project data.
