Team discovery of court records.

Need to verify if a certain party exists? The shared configuration lets the entire team call `search_norm_party` from within their code. This ensures everyone uses the same logic and gets consistent data about every involved person. It's critical for maintaining a unified codebase when dealing with complex legal relationships.

Bulk export of case documentation.

When you need to compile a large report, use the team-level function `request_case_export`. Once the job is done, every developer can rely on calling `get_document_order_callback` to get the final file URL for necessary documents. This keeps your entire workflow predictable and repeatable across multiple users.

Initial data population.

Starting a project? You can use `import_pacer_case` to bring in initial case data that lives outside of UniCourt. For full context, the team can also run `get_case` to pull specific records needed for setup. This helps developers get up to speed fast without manually gathering every piece of information.

Setup guide

Set up UniCourt MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the UniCourt MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the UniCourt tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent UniCourt transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about UniCourt MCP in VS Code Copilot

Because the server is committed to the repo, any developer can ask Copilot to use `search_cases`. It will generate the correct function call and parameters based on the project context, keeping everyone aligned.
Yes. You can write code that uses `track_case` to monitor legal records automatically. This process runs reliably because it's committed to the project configuration, making monitoring consistent for the whole team.
It does. The shared tooling allows developers to call `request_case_export` and then use `get_case_export_callback` to programmatically retrieve the final zipped files, standardizing data retrieval for everyone.
The server manages PACER account credentials. Using `update_pacer_credential` means all team members are working with the most current and verified authentication tokens.
The primary sensitive data handled here is Case details, including full court records and normalized entity information (attorneys, judges).
