Query food profiles for API context.
When you need to write a function that accepts nutrient data, use the `search_usda_foods` tool. The AI agent can execute this search and inject the resulting metrics—calories, protein, fat, carbs, fiber, sugar—directly into your current code block. This means you're writing working code using real API responses, not just placeholder stubs.
Get precise details for structured output.
If your code requires detailed information for a known food item, call `get_usda_food_details` with the FDC ID. The agent pulls this deep nutritional data and allows you to immediately use it in the function logic. It ensures that your resulting program uses accurate, up-to-date USDA nutrient metrics.
Build code around complex nutrition logic.
The unique power here is combining tools. You let the AI agent handle a multi-step process: first search for general food types, then pull specific details on one of those results. The final output is clean, functional Python or JavaScript that uses live data. You write your business logic while Cursor handles the complexity of calling the USDA FoodData Central API.
