Fetch current livestock production data.

The `get_livestock_summary` tool lets you pull live stats on commodities like CHICKENS or EGGS directly into your code. Just specify the commodity and optional state filters. When running in Agent mode, Cursor uses this live response to generate working API calls that include real data points.

Validate complex query parameters.

Before writing a single line of code for a query, use `get_param_values`. This function lets you check valid filter values for sectors, units, and descriptions. This prevents runtime errors. It's essential to run this utility tool first, ensuring your subsequent calls to `get_quick_stats` are syntactically correct.

Search across all agricultural statistics.

If you don't know which data type to query—be it price, inventory, or acreage—use `search_by_commodity`. This tool performs a broad search by commodity name. It helps the AI agent gather initial context, letting you write code that covers multiple statistical bases.

Common questions about USDA NASS MCP in Cursor

Start by running `get_param_values` to map out the required parameters. Once you know the valid inputs, use those values when calling core tools like `get_quick_stats` or `get_crop_summary`.
The server covers crops (like WHEAT), livestock, farm demographics, and economic metrics. The tools allow you to retrieve comprehensive statistics across these major sectors.
The MCP Server pulls data directly from established USDA NASS databases, providing real API responses. The agent uses this live context to ensure your generated code is accurate.
Use `get_survey_info` for collection details and `get_param_values` to map out all possible filter dimensions. These two tools give you full visibility into the available data structure.
The server touches aggregate statistical data covering commodities, demographics, and economics (e.g., farm population counts, crop yields). It never accesses individual private records.
