How to Use the Vald MCP in Google ADK
Build enterprise agents that query, insert, and manage dense vectors using Google ADK.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Vald MCP to Google ADK
Create your Vinkius account to connect Vald to Google ADK and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Querying Vectors with the MCP Server
The `search_vectors` tool finds nearest neighbors in your index. You pass it a query vector formatted as a JSON array of floats, and Vald executes the similarity search against all stored data. This allows your Gemini-powered agent to pull highly relevant context from massive datasets without complex joins.
Managing Vector Data with Google ADK
Need to add new information? `insert_vector` is the tool. Just give it a unique ID and your vector data as a JSON array, and Vald indexes it instantly. If source material changes, use `update_vector`. You specify an existing ID and pass in the new vector array to overwrite what's currently stored.
Inspecting Vald Engine Details
You can check operational health with `get_engine_info`, which reports on the full status of the Vald engine. It helps your team confirm everything is up and running. Want to grab specific records? The `get_vector_details` tool lets you pull the raw vector data for any given ID, perfect for debugging or auditing.
Set up Vald MCP in Google ADK
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
google-adkpackage (pip install google-adk) - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install Google ADK
Run
pip install google-adkto install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via theMcpToolsetclass. - 2
Connect via SSE transport
Use
McpToolset.from_server()withSseServerParamspointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Create an LlmAgent
Pass the returned
mcp_toolslist directly toLlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required. - 4
Run with any Gemini model
The agent works with any Gemini model (
gemini-2.0-flash,gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with Vald tools in your ADK agent.
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams
# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
connection_params=SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
)
# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
name="Vald_agent",
model="gemini-2.0-flash",
instruction="You have access to Vald tools via MCP.",
tools=mcp_tools,
