The edx-alternative-mcp server lets you pull your entire course catalog straight into the chat. When a student asks what classes are available, Claude runs `list_courses` to pull live titles and IDs. You do not have to dig through the registrar's portal to find basic catalog info anymore. Need specifics on a particular class? Your agent grabs the exact syllabus using `get_course_details` and breaks down the modules with `get_course_blocks`. You get the exact curriculum structure delivered right to your desktop or web browser interface.

Enrollment and Profile Management

Handling student registrations usually means jumping between three different admin screens. Now you just tell your AI client to add a user to a class. It fires off `enroll_in_course` and confirms the action instantly. You can handle basic user administration from the same chat window. Running `get_user_profile` pulls up their current standing, and `update_user_profile` lets you fix typos or change preferences on the fly. Checking their exact settings takes one click with `get_user_preferences`.

Live Grade Tracking

Instructors need fast access to student performance data. Instead of exporting CSV files from the LMS, you ask Claude to check how a specific person is doing. The server uses `get_user_grades` to return their exact scores for any active class. Checking class-wide performance is just as fast. Executing `get_course_grades` fetches the aggregate data for everyone enrolled. Combine that with `list_enrollments` to see exactly who is falling behind and who needs a reminder to finish their modules.

Set up edX MCP in Claude Web or Desktop

    Open Claude Settings

    Go to claude.ai, click your profile icon, then navigate to Customize → Connectors.

    Add Custom Connector

    Click the "+" button and select Add custom connector. Paste your Vinkius endpoint URL: https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. For OAuth-protected servers, expand Advanced settings to add credentials.
