Key Capabilities

Run an automated curriculum crew

One agent cannot manage an entire university alone. You can assign a researcher agent to scan the catalog using `list_courses` and map out syllabi with `get_course_blocks`. A second agent takes that research and analyzes it. By executing `get_course_details`, it checks if the class descriptions meet your internal standards and logs any missing information to shared memory.

Delegate student administration

Your registration desk can run autonomously. A specialized coordinator agent monitors new signups and uses `enroll_in_course` to place students into their required tracks. A separate auditor agent verifies these actions. It cross-references `list_enrollments` with the expected roster and runs `get_user_profile` to ensure the student accounts are fully populated.

Track performance via CrewAI MCP Server

You can build a dedicated academic review crew. A monitor agent continuously pulls `get_course_grades` to find classes with unusually low passing rates. When it flags a problem, an intervention agent takes over. It executes `get_user_grades` for the struggling students and adjusts their learning paths by calling `update_user_profile` without you lifting a finger.

Setup guide

Set up edX MCP in CrewAI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • crewai package (pip install crewai)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install CrewAI

    Run pip install crewai to install the framework. MCP support is built-in via the mcps parameter.

  2. 2

    Add the MCP URL to your agent

    Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the mcps list. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically.

  3. 3

    Kick off your crew

    Create a Crew with your agent and tasks. Call crew.kickoff() — the agent will automatically invoke edX tools as needed.

crew.py
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew

agent = Agent(
    role="edX Analyst",
    goal="Access and analyze edX data via MCP.",
    backstory="Expert analyst with direct edX access.",
    mcps=[
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ],
)

task = Task(
    description="List recent edX transactions",
    agent=agent,
    expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)

crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result)

Common questions about edX MCP in CrewAI

Install `crewai[tools]`. You can pass the Vinkius endpoint URL directly into your agent's `mcps` array to give it immediate access to all course and grading tools.
Yes. Import `MCPServerHTTP` from `crewai.mcp` and use `tool_filter`. This lets you restrict the grading agent to `get_user_grades` while the admin agent handles enrollments.
CrewAI uses shared memory. If your first agent pulls a list of classes, the second agent can read that context and immediately start calling `get_course_details` on specific IDs.
Definitely. You can structure your crew so the enrollment agent finishes registering a student before the notification agent emails them their course blocks.
Vinkius handles the authentication layer externally. Your Python agents only receive the specific user profiles or enrollments they request, and the isolated server shuts down the moment the CrewAI process ends.
