Key Capabilities

Autonomous repo management in Windsurf

Cascade uses `create_new_issue` and `list_repo_issues` to track your project status. You set the goal, and the agent keeps the backlog updated while you focus on writing code. It handles the context switches for you. By using `list_pull_requests` alongside your local files, the agent ensures your feature branches stay aligned with the main repo.

Search and read GitHub files inside Windsurf

Stop jumping between your browser and the IDE. The `search_github_code` tool pulls relevant snippets directly into your workspace so you can analyze logic without context loss. When you need to see how a dependency works, `get_file_contents` brings the code to you. Cascade reads the files, explains the implementation, and helps you apply changes immediately.

Verify your GitHub access in Windsurf

Connection issues kill your flow. The `verify_api_connection` tool checks your credentials in seconds so you know you have the right permissions to push commits. Once connected, use `get_my_github_profile` to confirm your identity. It's a quick check that ensures your Windsurf session has the correct access to your repositories.

Setup guide

Set up GitHub MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the GitHub MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my GitHub payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the GitHub tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.
