How to Use the Pinecone MCP in Windsurf
Let Windsurf query your vector store directly. Stop copy-pasting embeddings and let your agent handle index stats and retrieval.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client

Key Capabilities
Windsurf manages your index health
Cascade doesn't just read your code; it probes your database configuration. By invoking `describe_index` and `get_index_stats`, Windsurf pulls real-time metrics to understand exactly how your data is partitioned. Stop guessing about index capacity. Your agent sees the usage stats and flags potential bottlenecks before they crash your production environment.
Autonomous vector retrieval
Windsurf chains complex workflows by using `query_vectors` to find semantic matches in your dataset. It interprets the results and updates your codebase without you lifting a finger. Testing retrieval logic becomes trivial. Cascade fetches specific records via `fetch_vectors` to verify that your embedding pipeline is actually producing the expected output.
Direct collection management
Managing your infrastructure from the chat window is now standard practice. Windsurf uses `list_indexes` and `list_collections` to map your entire Pinecone environment. Cleaning up is just as simple. When you need to prune stale data, the agent uses `delete_vectors` to keep your index lean and your search results relevant.
Set up Pinecone MCP in Windsurf
Prerequisites
- Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
- Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Open MCP configuration
Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open
~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. - 2
Add the Pinecone MCP
Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the
mcpServersobject. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Refresh MCPs
Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.
- 4
Verify in Cascade
Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my Pinecone payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the Pinecone tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.
