Key Capabilities

Build live air quality dashboards with Cline

Cline doesn't just fetch PurpleAir metrics; it builds the frontend to display them. Tell Cline to build a React widget, and it will call `get_sensor_data` to pull real-time PM2.5, temperature, and humidity, then write the code to render it. The agent uses `get_sensors_near_me` to find the PurpleAir hardware closest to your user's coordinates. It then writes the CSS and HTML to display localized PurpleAir pollution levels without you writing a single line of code in Cline.

Analyze local pollution grids using this MCP Server

Inspect specific geographic zones for particulate matter using Cline's autonomous file creation. Cline calls `get_sensors_by_bounding_box` to gather PurpleAir environmental metrics across a neighborhood, then creates local JSON or CSV data files in your project directory. If you need to analyze specific monitors, Cline uses `get_sensors_by_index` to fetch updated PurpleAir values. It writes validation scripts in VS Code to ensure the incoming PurpleAir PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10.0 data is clean and structured.

Compare indoor and outdoor environmental metrics

Evaluate how well building HVAC systems filter outdoor pollution using Cline's automated testing. Cline calls `get_indoor_sensors` and `get_outdoor_sensors` to pull concurrent PurpleAir readings, then writes scripts to calculate the indoor-to-outdoor PM2.5 ratio. This MCP Server lets you target specific hardware using `get_indoor_sensors` or `get_outdoor_sensors` directly inside Cline. Your agent can parse the returned PurpleAir metadata to build automated reports comparing home office air quality against nearby city sensors.

Setup guide

Set up PurpleAir MCP in Cline

Prerequisites

  • VS Code with Cline extension installed

Common questions about PurpleAir MCP in Cline

Open the Cline sidebar, click the MCP icon, and add the PurpleAir server details to your settings.
Absolutely, as Cline can call `get_sensor_history_csv` to download historical data, write a Python script to parse the file, and generate a local trend chart.
Yes, tell Cline which sensor index you want to watch, and it will use `get_sensor_data` to fetch current PM2.5 and VOC levels to update your local files.
You can ask Cline to find monitors in a specific city, and the agent will calculate the coordinates and call `get_sensors_by_bounding_box` to fetch the data.
No, the server only handles PurpleAir sensor IDs, physical coordinates, and air quality metrics, keeping your local Cline files secure inside the Vinkius MCP sandbox.
