Key Capabilities

Inspect Retable project structures in VS Code Copilot

This MCP Server uses `list_projects` and `get_project` to let VS Code Copilot explore your entire Retable workspace. Your team-wide agent inspects the active projects and lists their underlying tables, helping you coordinate schema changes. Instead of searching through web interfaces, developers can ask Copilot to describe a database layout. The agent pulls the exact table lists, making it easy to map out data pipelines.

Manage spreadsheet records directly in your workspace

The server executes `create_record` and `update_record` to let VS Code Copilot modify spreadsheet rows based on your active files. If you are writing a script that parses CSVs, Copilot can test the parser by writing the output straight to your Retable tables. The agent also runs `delete_record` when you need to remove duplicate rows or clear out legacy test data. This keeps your production tables clean without requiring manual database administration.

Query live table records with VS Code Copilot

By calling `list_records` and `get_record`, VS Code Copilot fetches live data points from your Retable tables to assist with debugging. You can compare local variables against actual database values directly in the Copilot Chat panel. The connection status is verified using `check_retable_status` to ensure your API credentials are valid under this MCP connection. This prevents silent failures when your code attempts to push updates to the database.

Setup guide

Set up Retable MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Retable MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Retable tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Retable transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
