Cursor agent queries 4D records

When you are in Agent mode, Cursor can fetch live data using `list_entities`. It uses ORDA-style filters to grab exactly what you need for your current task. Your code gets built with real database output. No more writing mock data or guessing what the API returns.

Write 4D data from Cursor

The agent can execute `create_entity` or `update_entity` based on the code you just wrote. It translates your logic into a valid JSON payload for the database. This closes the loop between your schema design and your data storage. You define the structure, and the agent keeps the records in sync.

Navigate 4D catalogs in Cursor

Run `get_catalog` to let the agent index your database structure. It stores this context in the chat, so it understands the relationships between your DataClasses. This makes your refactoring tasks much faster. The agent knows the schema, so it suggests changes that actually work with your existing records.

  3. 3

    Enable Agent mode

Open Composer (Cmd+I / Ctrl+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown at the top. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

Ask Cursor something like "List my recent 4D transactions." If the MCP tools are loaded correctly, Cursor will call the 4D tools automatically. You can also check Settings → MCP for a green status indicator.

Common questions about 4D MCP in Cursor

Create a .cursor/mcp.json file in your project root. Define the server there, and the agent will detect the available tools automatically.
Yes, the agent can call `update_entity` or `delete_entity` if you authorize the action. You have full control over what the agent executes.
You can configure it globally in your home directory or locally per project. Most teams prefer the local file to keep the config version-controlled.
