Automate IP Address Auditing

This server gives your Mastra AI agent four tools for checking IPs: `check_ip_address`, `get_ip_abuse_reports`, `get_abuse_blacklist`, and `check_api_status`. You can build a workflow that takes an IP, checks its score, and pulls all associated reports if the score is above your threshold. Mastra's workflow engine makes this direct. You define the steps, and the agent executes them. If the `check_ip_address` tool finds a bad actor, your workflow can automatically trigger the `get_ip_abuse_reports` tool to gather evidence for a ticket or an alert.

Create Failure-Tolerant Workflows

What happens if the AbuseIPDB API is down? The `check_api_status` tool lets you verify the service is running before you start a job. Mastra AI's conditional logic lets you build smart branches: if the API is down, wait and retry, or notify an administrator. Mastra's built-in retry mechanism is perfect for this. If a call to `check_ip_address` fails because of a network blip, Mastra can retry with exponential backoff. You don't have to write that logic; your security checks just become more reliable.

Build Smart Security Logic with an MCP Server

You can combine tools to create more advanced workflows. For example, you could have a workflow that pulls the latest `get_abuse_blacklist`, then runs `check_ip_address` on each IP to see if it's in your system's access logs. This is where Mastra AI is strong. It's not just about calling one tool; it's about sequencing them based on results. This MCP Server provides the necessary building blocks for your agent to make decisions.

Setup guide

Set up AbuseIPDB MCP in Mastra AI

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • @mastra/mcp + @mastra/core packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run npm install @mastra/mcp @mastra/core plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).

  2. 2

    Configure the MCPClient

    Create an MCPClient with your Vinkius endpoint as a URL object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Discover and inject tools

    Call mcpClient.listTools() and spread the result into your agent's tools object. All AbuseIPDB tools become native Mastra tools.

  4. 4

    Run with any model

    Swap openai("gpt-4o") for any AI SDK-compatible provider. Call agent.generate() and the agent routes tool calls through MCP automatically.

agent.ts
import { MCPClient } from "@mastra/mcp";
import { Agent } from "@mastra/core/agent";
import { openai } from "@ai-sdk/openai";

const mcpClient = new MCPClient({
  id: "abuseipdb-mcp-client",
  servers: {
    "abuseipdb-mcp": {
      url: new URL(
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
      ),
    },
  },
});

const agent = new Agent({
  name: "AbuseIPDB Agent",
  model: openai("gpt-4o"),
  instructions: "You have access to AbuseIPDB tools.",
  tools: {
    ...(await mcpClient.listTools()),
  },
});

const result = await agent.generate(
  "List recent AbuseIPDB transactions"
);
console.log(result.text);

Common questions about AbuseIPDB MCP in Mastra AI

Mastra AI has automatic retries with exponential backoff built in. If a network call to the AbuseIPDB server fails, Mastra will try again. This makes your security automation much more resilient to temporary network problems.
Yes. Mastra AI has a `requireToolApproval` feature for exactly this. Your agent can find a suspicious IP with `check_ip_address` but will pause and wait for a person to approve the action before it proceeds to block it.
Initialize the MCPClient for your Vinkius endpoint, then call `mcpClient.listTools()`. You can spread the resulting array of tools directly into the `tools` property when you define your Mastra agent.
Absolutely. That's a core strength of Mastra AI. Your workflow calls `check_ip_address`, gets the score, and then uses Mastra's conditional logic to decide what to do next. It could get more reports or it could trigger an alert.
The server only sees the IP addresses your agent submits for analysis. Vinkius secures the connection, and the server itself doesn't log your queries or tie them to your Mastra AI instance. The compute environment is temporary and stateless.
