Team-Wide Task Visibility

Engineering teams need a shared understanding of what needs building next. Hardcoding API scripts to pull this data wastes time. You can commit a single configuration file to your repository and give every developer instant access to the active backlog via MCP. Copilot uses `list_projects` to find active initiatives based on their current status. Once the target is identified, `get_project_details` extracts the progress metrics so the developer knows exactly how far along the milestone is.

AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) MCP Server Management

Breaking down large features into actionable engineering steps usually happens in a browser. Now you can map out those technical sub-steps right next to the source code. The AI agent translates your technical plan into official tracking items. By executing `create_task`, the agent attaches granular work items to the correct parent structure. It relies on `list_tasks` to read the existing container IDs, ensuring your new entries land in the right sprint or module.

Custom Resource Queries

Figuring out who is available to review a pull request often requires checking multiple systems. You want to see the actual resource assignments without leaving the editor. A direct query solves this instantly. Developers can ask Copilot to invoke `run_query` with specific CZQL syntax to find available reviewers. The agent will often combine this with `list_users` to verify the organization's active roster before suggesting a name.

Setup guide

Set up AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about AdaptiveWork (Clarizen) MCP in VS Code Copilot

Create a .vscode/mcp.json file in your repository root. Add the server details and commit the file to version control. Anyone who pulls the repo will automatically get access to the tools.
Yes. Copilot can execute the `run_query` tool if you provide the correct Clarizen Query Language parameters. Just tell the chat interface exactly what data you want to extract.
The agent needs the exact Project ID to fetch details. If you only know the name, ask Copilot to execute `list_projects` first to search the active organization list.
You need VS Code version 1.96 or higher. Older builds do not support the MCP configuration files required to connect external tools.
Vinkius handles the authentication via a secure, ephemeral sandbox. The server reads your proprietary CZQL commands, project states, and task hierarchies strictly for the duration of the prompt. No enterprise data is retained or used for model training.
