It builds a complete picture of your setup by calling `list_alexa_devices` to grab endpoint IDs, display categories, and manufacturer details. Your agent checks device status before taking action. It reads `get_power_state` to see if the lights are already on, or queries `get_thermostat_state` to grab current HVAC settings. You get live answers about your physical space without opening another app.

Command devices through text

This MCP Server translates text commands into physical changes when you tell your AI client to dim the office. It executes `adjust_brightness` with a negative value to drop the lighting level. Need it quiet for a meeting? Your agent fires off `set_volume` to mute the Echo in the corner. Basic power toggles happen instantly. Claude runs `turn_off_alexa_device` or `turn_on_alexa_device` based on your prompt. You type a command, the tool fires, and the physical room reacts.

Manage hardware assignments

Moving a smart plug to a new room requires updating its metadata, which you handle via `update_device_room`. It takes the endpoint ID and your Alexa Smart Properties unit ID to reassign the hardware. You can also rename that plug by having Claude call `update_alexa_device_name`. Getting rid of old gear is just as fast. The `deregister_alexa_device` tool removes a broken switch from your account. If you need to force a hard reset, `forget_alexa_device` wipes it entirely so you can discover it fresh.
