How to Use the Alexa Smart Home MCP in VS Code Copilot
Give your engineering team direct access to physical hardware via VS Code Copilot and this MCP Server.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect Alexa Smart Home MCP to VS Code Copilot
Create your Vinkius account to connect Alexa Smart Home to VS Code Copilot and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Share hardware access across the team
Distributing physical device control to every developer in your repository happens through the Alexa Smart Home MCP Server. You commit the configuration, and Copilot instantly gets access to `list_alexa_devices`. The entire engineering squad can query endpoint IDs without sharing login credentials. The agent reads the environment for anyone who asks. A junior developer can type a prompt, and Copilot will call `get_power_state` or `get_thermostat_state` to check the lab equipment. The team builds integrations faster when everyone has the same live hardware context.
Manipulate test devices via VS Code Copilot
Developers can reset the testing environment by asking this MCP Server to run `turn_off_alexa_device` on the lab bench power strips. The AI client handles the exact API formatting. If a camera needs more light, it executes `set_brightness` to adjust the overhead bulbs. Audio testing works the same way. The agent fires `set_volume` to adjust the smart speakers before running a sound check script. You command the physical test lab through your editor chat.
Maintain your device registry
Keeping track of hundreds of test devices gets messy, but this MCP Server cleans it up using `update_alexa_device_name`. You tell the agent to rename a smart plug to match its new rack position, and it updates the registry immediately. It uses `update_device_room` to assign hardware to specific testing units. Retiring old gear happens without leaving the IDE. Your AI client runs `deregister_alexa_device` to pull a broken sensor off the company account. For a complete wipe, it calls `forget_alexa_device` so the QA team can provision it from scratch.
