Debate gateway changes in AutoGen

Enable multiple agents to challenge each other before applying changes to your gateway. One agent might suggest a `put_route` change, while another checks the impact using `get_control_routes` to see if it causes conflicts. This consensus-driven model prevents reckless configuration errors. Agents negotiate the best path forward, ensuring every `put_upstream` or `put_plugin_config` call is scrutinized by the group.

Multi-agent infrastructure control

Assign specific responsibilities to different agents within your system. A security agent can use `list_ssls` to check for expired certificates, while an operational agent executes `put_ssl` to replace them. They work together to maintain your gateway health. You build systems where agents handle the heavy lifting of routine maintenance and complex troubleshooting.

Autonomous gateway troubleshooting

Deploy a team of agents to resolve performance issues instantly. When latency spikes, an agent calls `get_control_healthcheck` and triggers `reload_control_plugins` if the diagnostic agent identifies a plugin bottleneck. This reduces the time you spend manually debugging gateway performance. Your agents manage the APISIX environment through constant deliberation and targeted tool execution.

Setup guide

Set up Apache APISIX MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Apache APISIX tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Apache APISIX_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Apache APISIX data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Apache APISIX MCP in AutoGen

You provide the tool list to your AssistantAgent. The agents then call tools like `delete_route` or `put_service` as they communicate to reach their goals.
They can, though you should structure your agents to coordinate via conversation to avoid race conditions when changing gateway configs.
Yes. You give your agents access to `get_control_healthcheck`, allowing them to monitor node status and discuss necessary infrastructure adjustments.
The MCP Server supports both stdio and Streamable HTTP, giving you flexibility in how your AutoGen agents connect to the gateway.
Your gateway credentials and configuration records are isolated within the Vinkius environment. Agents interact with the data only through the secure tool interface.
