Spin up agents through the MCP Server

The `create_agent` tool lets your agent define custom AutoGen roles directly from your prompt. You skip writing boilerplate Python code to configure agent personas. Claude handles the setup parameters while you focus on the workflow design. Need to check who is already available? Running `list_agents` pulls the current roster of configured roles. You get immediate visibility into which agents are ready to join your conversation.

Control conversation sessions

The `create_session` tool starts a fresh AutoGen Studio thread right in your chat interface. You dictate the initial parameters, and Claude sets up the blank slate. Every new workflow gets a clean environment. Managing active threads happens through `list_sessions` and `list_messages`. You pull history from specific runs to debug where a multi-agent chat went wrong. When a run finishes, `delete_session` wipes it permanently.

Map workflows and skills

AutoGen relies on predefined multi-agent patterns, which you access via the `list_workflows` tool. Claude reviews the available architectures and picks the right one for your task. You stop guessing which setup fits best. Agents need tools to do actual work. Calling `list_skills` shows every Python function your agents can execute. Checking `list_models` confirms which LLMs are mapped to those agents before you hit run.

Common questions about AutoGen MCP in Claude Desktop

Open your Claude Desktop settings and click Developer, then Edit Config. Add the server details under the mcpServers key in your configuration file. Restart the app completely to see the hammer icon appear.
Yes, it pulls past conversations using the `list_messages` tool. You specify the session ID, and your agent reads the exact back-and-forth between your AutoGen roles. This helps diagnose failing multi-agent loops.
You can connect this MCP Server directly to the web version. Go to Settings, find Integrations, and paste the Vinkius remote URL. The tools show up immediately without any local installation.
Tell Claude to start a new thread using `create_session`. Then use `create_message` to send your initial prompt to the AutoGen agents. The multi-agent system takes over from there.
Every time you run `create_message`, the input executes inside a Vinkius V8 Isolate Sandbox. The environment spins up just for that API call and self-destructs immediately after. Your prompt text and agent configuration never touch shared storage.
