Audit search indexers from your CLI

The `list_indexers` tool lists all scheduled search indexers configured on your Azure account. Claude Code runs this tool to check sync schedules and execution histories directly from your terminal. Instead of clicking through the Azure Portal, you pipe this output to grep or other command-line utilities. It makes debugging indexing pipelines in production environments significantly faster.

Execute vector searches using Claude Code

The `vector_search` tool executes KNN vector queries against your Azure embedding profiles. Claude Code uses this to test search relevance and verify embedding dimensions without writing test scripts. You can ask the terminal agent to compare vector search results with lexical search results side-by-side. It outputs clean terminal tables for immediate analysis.

Verify index configurations in CI/CD pipelines

The `list_indexes` tool pulls the names and metadata of all active indexes. Claude Code uses this to verify that target indexes exist before running migration scripts. This MCP Server integration allows you to run validation steps in headless environments. You can script the agent to fail a deployment if the production search schema drifts from your codebase.

Setup guide

Set up Azure Cognitive Search MCP in Claude Code

Prerequisites

  • Claude Code CLI installed (npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Run the add command

Common questions about Azure Cognitive Search MCP in Claude Code

Yes, you can run vector queries by asking Claude Code to execute `vector_search`. The tool returns KNN results directly to your terminal screen.
You configure the connection using the Claude CLI tool manager. It routes requests through the secure Vinkius MCP Server endpoint, making it ideal for SSH sessions or CI/CD pipelines.
Yes, Claude Code runs `list_indexers` and `list_skillsets` to audit the data ingestion pipeline. It analyzes the error logs in your terminal to pinpoint why documents aren't indexing.
Yes, the server supports stdio, HTTP, and SSE transports. You add it to your CLI's MCP configuration file, and the CLI agent handles the rest.
Your search payloads and index metadata are processed inside isolated, ephemeral V8 sandboxes. Vinkius handles the authentication token securely, ensuring no raw document data is stored or logged on our hosting infrastructure during your secure MCP connection.
