Debate election data in AutoGen

Assign one agent to `get_ballot_measures` while another critiques the impact. AutoGen forces them to reconcile their findings before presenting a final answer. This setup prevents the agent from settling on the first result it finds. It forces a negotiation that relies on the specific data returned by the tools.

Verify districts with AutoGen agents

Use `list_districts` to provide facts for your agents to evaluate. The security agent can flag invalid addresses while the research agent confirms the district details. This multi-agent flow ensures higher accuracy. You aren't just getting a raw data dump; you're getting a reviewed conclusion from your team of agents.

Negotiate candidate lists in AutoGen

Call `list_candidates` and let your agents argue over the most relevant entries. AutoGen manages the conversation history so they stay on topic. Your system converges on the best candidate profiles by comparing different perspectives. It turns raw API output into a deliberated report.

Setup guide

Set up BallotReady MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes BallotReady tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="BallotReady_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent BallotReady data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about BallotReady MCP in AutoGen

You use the mcp_server_tools function to register the tools. Once registered, you pass them to your AssistantAgent constructor to enable tool execution.
Yes, if you define multiple agents with different system prompts, they will call these tools and challenge each other's conclusions based on the returned data.
It does. You can use either stdio or Streamable HTTP to connect the server, and the McpToolAdapter handles the schema mapping for you.
You can include the tools in your group chat configuration. This lets any agent in the group request election data as needed during the conversation.
The data is handled within the memory of your local agent processes. We do not log your specific addresses or search history, keeping your civic inquiries isolated to your own session.
