How to Use the BallotReady MCP in Cline
Tell Cline to build a local election dashboard. It will fetch live BallotReady data, write the code, and show you the diff.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect BallotReady MCP to Cline
Create your Vinkius account to connect BallotReady to Cline and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Build Components with Live Election Data
Prompt Cline: "Create a React component that lists candidates for the next local election." Cline uses the BallotReady MCP server to call `list_elections` with your address, finds the next one, then calls `list_candidates` for the relevant offices. It doesn't just give you the data. Cline writes the JSX, adds state management for the candidate list, and even includes basic styling. You go from a one-line prompt to a working component in your editor.
Generate Typed Data Models from BallotReady
The `get_candidate` tool returns a structured profile with fields for name, party, and bio. Ask Cline to "generate a TypeScript interface based on the BallotReady candidate profile," and it will call the tool and map the response to a typed interface. This saves you from writing boilerplate types by hand. Cline understands the API response and turns it into code you can actually use, ensuring your application's data structures match the source.
Script Pre-commit Hooks with Your Cline Agent
You can use Cline to automate checks before you commit code. For instance, tell it: "Write a script that uses `get_account_check` to verify the BallotReady connection and fails the commit if it's down." Cline generates the script, and you can hook it into your Git workflow. It's a practical way to ensure your app's external dependencies are healthy before you push new code that relies on them.
