Instant isolation for Windsurf agents

The `create_sandbox` tool lets your agent spin up a fresh Linux environment in milliseconds. It keeps your local machine clean by offloading execution to a Firecracker microVM. Windsurf can pick the right template for the job. Whether you need Python or Node, the environment is ready before you finish typing your next instruction.

Manage active environments

Use `list_sandboxes` to see exactly what is running in your account. It gives you a clear view of your active compute resources without leaving your IDE. This visibility helps you track which tasks are still in progress. You can audit your usage and ensure no resources sit idle.

Cleanup after execution

Call `kill_sandbox` once your task finishes. This wipes the filesystem and terminates the microVM permanently. It ensures you don't leave junk files behind. Your workspace stays organized because every session is ephemeral and self-contained.

Setup guide

Set up E2B MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the E2B MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my E2B payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the E2B tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about E2B MCP in Windsurf

Open your MCP settings in Windsurf and add the server configuration. Once saved, Windsurf automatically detects the tools and makes them available to Cascade.
Yes, each sandbox uses Firecracker microVMs to isolate your processes. This keeps your local filesystem and network safe from any code your agent runs.
Sandboxes have a default timeout of 300 seconds to prevent resource leakage. If your task takes longer, you will need to start a new environment.
Yes, you can specify templates like python3 or node during the creation step. This ensures your environment has the right dependencies pre-installed.
No, data inside the sandbox is deleted when you call the termination tool. You should move any results you need to keep back to your local machine before ending the session.
