Connect Europeana MCP to Windsurf
Create your Vinkius account to connect Europeana to Windsurf and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Find and Examine Cultural Artifacts
Start with a high-level goal, not a specific command. Tell Windsurf "find drawings of ships from the Dutch Golden Age" and its Cascade agent uses `search_records` to build a list. It works on its own, chaining actions without you prompting every step. From there, Cascade automatically runs `get_record` on the most relevant results. You get back the full object details—provenance, materials, high-res image links—without having to manually request each one.
Uncover Connections with this MCP Server
A record is just the start. When Cascade pulls an artifact's data with `get_record`, it also finds linked entities like artists, patrons, or historical figures. It won't just stop at a name. The agent then automatically calls `get_entity` to pull biographies, timelines, and related works for those people. This turns a simple search into a full-blown research session, connecting the dots for you.
Prep Offline Datasets with OAI-PMH
For bigger projects, you can direct Cascade to perform a bulk metadata harvest. It uses the `oaipmh_request` tool to pull down entire collections as XML for offline analysis or local caching. This is for when you need the whole dataset, not just a few items. Set it up as a background task in Windsurf and let it run. Just be aware that you're trading the real-time speed of `search_records` for the completeness of a bulk download.
