Autonomous machine scaling in Windsurf

Windsurf can trigger `create_machine` to handle sudden traffic spikes without manual intervention. It evaluates your current load and provisions compute capacity on the fly. This keeps your costs predictable while ensuring your services remain responsive. You define the target, and the agent handles the lifecycle of every microVM.

Direct remote execution for Windsurf agents

Run diagnostic commands like `ps aux` or `top` inside your production environment using `exec_machine`. It pulls output directly into your editor for immediate review. This bypasses the need for SSH keys or jump hosts. You get terminal-level visibility into your running containers while staying inside your development flow.

Persistent volume management for Windsurf

Attach and monitor hardware NVMe storage using `list_volumes` to keep your stateful services running correctly. Windsurf tracks these attachments to ensure data integrity during deployments. Check your volume status alongside your code to avoid configuration drift. It makes managing databases or persistent caches as simple as checking a file path.

Common questions about Fly.io MCP in Windsurf

Add the server configuration to your `mcp_config.json` file inside the `.codeium/windsurf` directory. Once saved, click refresh in the MCP panel to see your tools.
Yes. Windsurf chains tools like `start_machine` and `get_machine` to verify state after a deployment. You set the goal, and the agent executes the required steps.
Your credentials remain local. Windsurf uses an endpoint token to communicate with your infrastructure, ensuring that your keys are never exposed during transit.
The agent uses `get_app` to pull your global Anycast IPs and regional data. This gives you a clear picture of where your traffic is currently landing.
Data privacy is handled at the transport layer. This MCP server only touches metadata and operational signals related to your machines, volumes, and app configurations.
