Index Forj with this MCP Server for RAG

Stop letting your community data sit idle in silos. This MCP Server lets your LlamaIndex pipeline pull live data using `get_user_activity` and index those event logs directly into a vector database for semantic search. Instead of guessing who is talking about what, you can query your index to find top contributors. Your RAG agent uses actual, real-time data grounded in your community logs rather than relying on outdated exports.

Query member structures with live data

When users ask questions about your community's active cohorts, your LlamaIndex agent can call `list_groups` and `list_group_members` to get the ground truth. It converts these raw lists into indexable documents on the fly. The agent then answers complex queries about group sizes and member distributions. This ensures your knowledge base is always backed by live API responses, preventing hallucinations about your community setup.

Audit pending requests through semantic search

Keeping track of who wants to join your community can get messy. By using `list_pending_requests` and `list_invitations`, your LlamaIndex agent can index pending profiles and compare them against your existing member database. You can ask your agent to find patterns in who is requesting access or flag potential spam signups. The agent evaluates the indexed application text against your community guidelines to make smart recommendations.

Setup guide

Set up Forj MCP in LlamaIndex

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • llama-index-tools-mcp package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install llama-index-tools-mcp llama-index-llms-openai. The MCP tools package provides BasicMCPClient and McpToolSpec.

  2. 2

    Connect with BasicMCPClient

    Point BasicMCPClient to your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports SSE and Streamable HTTP transports.

  3. 3

    Convert to LlamaIndex tools

    Call mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async() to convert all Forj MCP tools into native FunctionTool objects that any LlamaIndex agent can use.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Create a FunctionAgent with the tools and your preferred LLM. Swap OpenAI for Anthropic, Gemini, or any LlamaIndex-supported provider.

agent.py
from llama_index.tools.mcp import BasicMCPClient, McpToolSpec
from llama_index.core.agent.workflow import FunctionAgent
from llama_index.llms.openai import OpenAI

# Connect to the MCP
mcp_client = BasicMCPClient(
    "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
mcp_tool_spec = McpToolSpec(client=mcp_client)

# Convert MCP tools to LlamaIndex tools
tools = await mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async()

# Create and run the agent
agent = FunctionAgent(
    tools=tools,
    llm=OpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
    system_prompt="You have access to Forj tools.",
)
response = await agent.run("List recent Forj data")

Common questions about Forj MCP in LlamaIndex

Your LlamaIndex pipeline can use document ID hashing based on the unique member IDs returned by `search_users`. This ensures that when you run periodic indexing jobs, your vector store updates existing profiles instead of creating duplicate records.
Yes, by registering the MCP Server tools with your `FunctionAgent`, the agent will decide when to call `get_group` to fetch details and translate that raw JSON into a clear, natural language response for your users.
Install the required package using `pip install llama-index-tools-mcp`. Set up the `BasicMCPClient` with your Vinkius URL, convert it to a tool list, and pass them to your agent to begin indexing your community data.
Yes, you can use the `allowed_tools` filter in LlamaIndex to limit the agent's capabilities. For instance, you can expose `list_groups` for reading data while blocking destructive or modification actions.
The data fetched via `list_groups` and `get_group` is loaded directly into your local LlamaIndex vector store. Vinkius operates a zero-trust sandbox that simply routes the API requests securely without caching or logging your community layout or member details.
