Vector indexing for GitScrum boards and LlamaIndex

The GitScrum MCP Server lets LlamaIndex ingest board data directly through `list_tasks` and `get_task`. Your RAG pipeline indexes these live tasks into a vector store for semantic search. Instead of clicking through columns, you query your index to find duplicate issues or related work. The pipeline grounds its answers in actual board data to prevent hallucinations.

Semantic analysis of workspace statistics

You can feed `workspace_stats` and `project_stats` into LlamaIndex query engines to analyze team velocity. The framework parses these raw metrics and builds a searchable historical record. Developers get a clear view of bottlenecks without manual reporting. The engine correlates project health stats with your documentation to highlight resource constraints.

Automated workflow mapping with LlamaIndex and MCP

This integration uses `list_workflows` and `list_labels` to construct index structures that represent your board layout. Our framework uses this structural context to map incoming requests to the correct columns. Your agent looks up active labels and columns before suggesting task updates. This process ensures all automated modifications match your existing team workflows.

Setup guide

Set up GitScrum MCP in LlamaIndex

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • llama-index-tools-mcp package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install llama-index-tools-mcp llama-index-llms-openai. The MCP tools package provides BasicMCPClient and McpToolSpec.

  2. 2

    Connect with BasicMCPClient

    Point BasicMCPClient to your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports SSE and Streamable HTTP transports.

  3. 3

    Convert to LlamaIndex tools

    Call mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async() to convert all GitScrum MCP tools into native FunctionTool objects that any LlamaIndex agent can use.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Create a FunctionAgent with the tools and your preferred LLM. Swap OpenAI for Anthropic, Gemini, or any LlamaIndex-supported provider.

agent.py
from llama_index.tools.mcp import BasicMCPClient, McpToolSpec
from llama_index.core.agent.workflow import FunctionAgent
from llama_index.llms.openai import OpenAI

# Connect to the MCP
mcp_client = BasicMCPClient(
    "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
mcp_tool_spec = McpToolSpec(client=mcp_client)

# Convert MCP tools to LlamaIndex tools
tools = await mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async()

# Create and run the agent
agent = FunctionAgent(
    tools=tools,
    llm=OpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
    system_prompt="You have access to GitScrum tools.",
)
response = await agent.run("List recent GitScrum data")

Common questions about GitScrum MCP in LlamaIndex

Use `BasicMCPClient` to connect to the server, then wrap it with `McpToolSpec`. Call `to_tool_list_async()` to fetch tools like `list_tasks` and feed the outputs into your index pipeline.
Yes, by indexing outputs from `project_stats` and `get_project` over time. This lets you run semantic queries against past board states and performance metrics.
Yes, the query engine forces the LLM to ground its responses in active tasks retrieved via the MCP Server. If a task does not exist in the fetched context, the engine flags it.
Yes, you can use the `allowed_tools` filter on the tool spec to restrict access. For example, you can expose `list_tasks` while blocking write operations.
Your board metadata is processed in memory or saved to your designated local vector database. Vinkius handles the MCP connection securely using ephemeral sandboxes, so your project structures are never cached externally.
