Autonomous market analysis in CrewAI

Assign a research agent to pull data using `get_lmp_data` while a separate analyst agent interprets the trends. They work together to assess market conditions. This modular approach lets your crew handle complex tasks. One agent focuses on data gathering while the other makes decisions based on the output.

Regional grid oversight

Configure your agents to monitor different ISOs using `get_load_data`. Your crew can watch for demand surges across multiple regions simultaneously. It distributes the workload effectively. Each agent stays focused on its assigned region, providing a clearer picture of national energy demand.

Automated capacity reporting

Use `get_capacity_data` to feed your reporting agents the latest resource adequacy metrics. Your crew compiles these into actionable summaries automatically. This saves you hours of manual research. You get high-level insights into capacity markets without ever touching the raw API directly.

Setup guide

Set up GridStatus MCP in CrewAI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • crewai package (pip install crewai)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install CrewAI

    Run pip install crewai to install the framework. MCP support is built-in via the mcps parameter.

  2. 2

    Add the MCP URL to your agent

    Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the mcps list. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically.

  3. 3

    Kick off your crew

    Create a Crew with your agent and tasks. Call crew.kickoff() — the agent will automatically invoke GridStatus tools as needed.

crew.py
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew

agent = Agent(
    role="GridStatus Analyst",
    goal="Access and analyze GridStatus data via MCP.",
    backstory="Expert analyst with direct GridStatus access.",
    mcps=[
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ],
)

task = Task(
    description="List recent GridStatus transactions",
    agent=agent,
    expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)

crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result)

Common questions about GridStatus MCP in CrewAI

Yes. By adding the server URL to your agent configuration, your crew gains the ability to execute any of the 12 tools. They then decide when to query the grid data based on their assigned goals.
You can use a tool filter in your agent setup. This restricts the crew to only the specific tools you want them to access, like `get_realtime_lmp`.
It does. You assign specific data-gathering roles to different agents in your crew. One agent handles fuel mix, while another manages load data, mirroring real-world analyst teams.
Yes. You can include a monitor agent whose only job is to call `get_api_usage`. This agent alerts you if your team is approaching their query quota.
The server only provides public wholesale market and grid health data. No sensitive information or user credentials from your environment are exposed to the grid API.
