Automate deployment approvals in AutoGen

A developer agent proposes a release to production using `list_environments`. A separate security agent reviews the target and either approves or blocks the action. They argue based on actual system state, not assumptions. Once they reach consensus, the execution agent calls `execute_pipeline` to push the code.

Multi-agent troubleshooting

When a build fails, one agent constantly polls `get_execution_status` while another pulls historical context via `list_executions`. They divide the diagnostic workload. The monitoring agent reports step failures into the shared chat. The senior engineer agent analyzes those logs and suggests a rollback strategy before things get worse.

Validate configurations with the MCP Server

The MCP Server allows your compliance agent to audit the deployment YAML via `get_pipeline` and verify credential mappings using `list_secrets`. If a junior agent tries to push a configuration that exposes a database password, the security agent catches it. The group refuses to proceed until the YAML is corrected.

Setup guide

Set up Harness MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Harness tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Harness_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Harness data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Harness MCP in AutoGen

Install `autogen-ext[mcp]`. Initialize `mcp_server_tools` with your Streamable HTTP URL, then pass the resulting tool list into your `AssistantAgent` constructor.
They do this if you grant them access to the `execute_pipeline` tool. You usually want to require a human-in-the-loop step before the final execution command fires.
They read the error output from `get_execution_status` and discuss the next move. One agent suggests a retry while another proposes reverting the commit.
No. The `McpToolAdapter` automatically converts the JSON schemas for tools like `list_services` into formats the LLM natively understands.
Vinkius acts strictly as a pass-through layer. When your agents query `list_secrets` metadata, the ephemeral container processes the API call and immediately purges all memory.
