Built-in publishing guardrails

The Hashnode MCP server turns your OpenAI agents into technical editors. When your agent drafts a tutorial, it calls `create_post` to push it directly to your publication. You don't have to copy and paste markdown out of a chat window ever again. Because you are building with the OpenAI Agents SDK, you can enforce strict safety constraints before that post goes live. Set up a multi-agent handoff where a reviewer agent verifies the code blocks, then uses `update_post` to fix formatting errors before final approval.

Traceable content updates

Managing a technical blog means constantly fixing outdated code snippets. Your agent can pull down existing articles using `get_post` and compare them against your latest repository commits. Every action the agent takes is fully visible in your OpenAI dashboard. If an agent goes rogue and tries to rewrite your entire back catalog, the SDK tracing lets you see exactly which prompt triggered the `update_post` call so you can fix the system prompt.

Audience and author context

Good technical writing requires knowing the audience. Before your agent drafts a new series, it can run `get_publication_posts` to analyze the tone and structure of your most successful articles. You can also pull specific author details via `get_user`. This gives your agent the context it needs to write in your specific voice, matching your bio and previous work history without requiring massive system prompts.

Setup guide

Set up Hashnode MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • openai-agents package (pip install openai-agents)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install the SDK

    Run pip install openai-agents to install the OpenAI Agents SDK. The MCP integration is built-in — no extra dependencies needed.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use MCPServerSse with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. The SDK auto-discovers all Hashnode tools at runtime.

  3. 3

    Create your Agent

    Pass the MCP to Agent(mcp_servers=[server]). The agent receives Hashnode tools as native definitions — JSON schemas resolve automatically.

  4. 4

    Run the agent

    Call Runner.run(agent, prompt) to execute. The agent invokes the appropriate Hashnode tools and returns structured results. Copy the full example on the right to get started.

agent.py
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerSse

async def main():
    async with MCPServerSse(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ) as server:
        agent = Agent(
            name="Hashnode Agent",
            instructions="You have access to Hashnode tools.",
            mcp_servers=[server],
        )
        result = await Runner.run(agent, "List recent transactions")
        print(result.final_output)

asyncio.run(main())

Common questions about Hashnode MCP in OpenAI Agents SDK

Pass the server to the Agent constructor. You just initialize MCPServerStreamableHttp with your endpoint URL and set mcp_servers to include it. The SDK auto-discovers the tools immediately.
Yes. You assign the MCP Server specifically to your publisher agent. Other specialized agents in your handoff chain won't even see the tools.
It does if you tell it to. Set cacheToolsList to true during setup to speed up agent initialization when working with your blog.
The SDK catches the error. If a markdown payload fails, the agent reads the error message and attempts to fix the formatting before retrying.
It only touches your blog content and public user profiles. The server reads markdown files and author bios via the API, passing them directly to your agent without storing them in any intermediate database.
